Welcome, Fen and Nate!
Over the summer, two new colleagues joined the RDG team: Fen Johanson as Senior Designer and Nate Card as Senior Resilience Planner. Their experience and creativity expand the ways RDG can serve clients and communities. Each brings a distinct background—bridging fields from architecture to theater production—and a shared commitment to helping people and ecosystems thrive.
Fen Johanson, Senior Designer, is a designer, builder, and systems thinker with a background that bridges architecture, permaculture, and climate-responsive planning. His work is grounded in ecological principles and informed by over two decades of experience in green building, historic preservation, ecological restoration, and community-driven design. Fen holds a Master of Ecological Design from The Conway School and a Master of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Nate Card, Senior Resilience Planner, has a background in theater and event production, bringing a foundation in logistics, systems thinking, and creative problem solving to his work supporting communities—human and non-human alike—adapt to a rapidly changing climate. He aims to inspire others into hope and action through impactful storytelling, and participatory processes that strengthen relationships between people and place. Nate holds an MSc in Ecological Design from The Conway School and a BFA in Theatre Arts from Stephens College. He is also a licensed Part 107 sUAV remote pilot.
Fen and Nate bring fresh energy and hard-won expertise to our cooperative. Their perspectives enrich our interdisciplinary work and strengthen our ability to design landscapes that are resilient, regenerative, and deeply rooted in place. Welcome, Fen and Nate!
