Triangle Land Conservancy Agricultural Plan

Establishing a site-specific framework that enables regenerative agriculture, education, and conservation to function as a cohesive, living system.

The Bailey and Sarah Williamson Preserve at Walnut Hill is a 405-acre landscape of old fields, pasture, woodland, ponds, streams, and historic agricultural buildings. Triangle Land Conservancy envisioned the property as more than conserved land: a publicly accessible regenerative agriculture and education hub that supports clean water, habitat protection, local food systems, and community engagement.

RDG developed a whole-farm conceptual plan that organizes the site along a north–south gradient of activity and ecological sensitivity. More intensive agricultural production, infrastructure, and education spaces are concentrated in the northern portion, gradually transitioning to woodlands and conservation lands to the south. The framework integrates farm systems, historic landscape preservation, soil and water stewardship, and on-site processing and distribution, providing a clear structure for phased implementation while honoring the site’s agricultural history and ecological context.
